Everything You Need To Know About Your Next Car Service

The basic definition of car service is a process of tuning up vehicles by following certain maintenance procedures. These maintenance procedures should be followed at a set time interval or after completing or running certain kilometers. The time interval may vary based on the type of vehicle. Car service involves a complete check of the vehicle's components. The complete service will be recorded in the service ledger or service book. After completing each service, the work done will be listed and noted in the ledger.

Basic Tasks Carried Out While Servicing Cars:

Listed below are some of the basic tasks carried out while servicing the cars:

    Checking the condition of the engine and replenishing it by changing the engine oil and cleaning carburetors.

    Checking the suspension and suspension oil levels and adjusting it.

    Checking the steering wheel’s alignment and ensuring the free flow of the steering wheel.

    Checking the exhaust system and adjusting it to maintain correct emission levels.

    Checking the electrical unit of the vehicle and rectifying if an error occurs.

    Checking the air pressure of the wheels and correcting and rectify if any air leakage exists.

    Cleaning the entire body both inner as well as the outer area of the vehicle.

    Checking the proper functioning of the brakes and refilling the brake oil if the level of the oil is not up to the mark.

Car Service Checklist:

Car service: checklist is a document which has the total list of things to be taken care of while servicing. The checklist is used as a reminder, and it has points to be considered. The basic topics covered in the checklist are listed below:

    Vehicle Interior: This point in the checklist covers all the interior apparels of the vehicle such as seat belts, Horn, Air conditioner, Clutch operation, windscreen wipers.

    Vehicle Exterior: This covers all external parts and accessories like exterior lights and lamps, the condition of doors and its operation, condition of the boot and its operation, checking fuel cap functioning and mirror operation.

    Pre Alignment check: Checking the alignment of steering wheels, suspension linkages, ball joints for wear, damage and condition, alignment of suspensions, shock absorbers and springs, alignment of wheels, all these things are considered under the pre-alignment check.

    Under the Bonnet: This is the major area which handles the servicing of engine and accessories required for the proper running of the vehicle. Battery checking, wiring checking, testing electrics such as starting motors, checking the coolant level and the level of braking fluid, checking the bonnet catch operation, proper functioning of brake pipes and hoses and coolant hoses and radiator. All these tasks are covered under this section.

    Under the Vehicle: This section covers the functioning of the apparels under the platform. The tasks included under this section are full brake inspection, visual brake check, to inspect fuel pipes for damage, routing, and corrosion, to check transmission of the engine and to check exhaust system and mountings.

    Final check: Final check is nothing but running the vehicle to check if any further repairs are needed. This is done after the completion of the tasks listed above.

Why should Car Service be done regularly?

One should service the car regularly to extend the lifetime of the vehicle. If the car is taken good care, then there will be no risk of sudden malfunctioning of the car which saves the time, and it will keep us in peace too in the long run. If the car is not maintained well, then the lifetime of the car will be decreased, and it will lead to more expenses.
